Aerotank is the main facility used for biological wastewater treatment. Wastewater disposal occurs due to the vital activity of active sludge — the biocenosis of bacteria and protozoa.
Due to the saturation of the aeration zone with air, the "active sludge" in the aeration tank is suspended all the time, in the process of its vital activity, sorbing and decomposing into the simplest safe components most complex organic and inorganic pollutants.
After the aeration tank, the activated sludge enters the secondary settling tanks, where it is deposited, after which its excess is sent to the sludge mechanical treatment facilities.
